Make your Android Battery Last Longer

Battery usage is one of the niggling problems with top level android phones. Generally, the higher spec the phone, the more thirsty the battery is. Charging your battery on a 4 hourly basis is no joke, and a terrible situation to find yourself in if you're out and about and have forgotten to bring along your charger.

There are a few things that you can do to alleviate this problem to a degree and allow you to indulge your android addiction in peace including; turning off wi-fi or 3G internet when not in use, only having apps running in the background that are needed, keep phone brightness down to a minimum (may also help to lessen headaches!), switch off Bluetooth when not in use, disable GPS when not using, uninstall or disable any apps/ widgets that you aren't using and keep screen timeout to as low a time as possible.

Battery Usage Screen

All android phones have a battery usage screen that gives you a vague idea of what is using your battery the most. To access this screen go to:

  • menu
  • Settings
  • About Phone
  • Battery

This screen may only be of limited benefit but you will get a general idea of what the main drain factor is.

Battery Saving Android App

Juice Defender is an android app designed to take the hassle out of some of the above steps, conserving your battery for you so you don't have to worry. Available in a free version, a plus version costing £1.99 and an ultimate version costing £4.99. Juice Defender will automatically disable/enable the most draining aspects of your android such as 3G/4G connectivity and wi-fi, enabling it when you decide to use it. You can use default settings; balanced, aggressive and extreme or customise your battery saving settings to suit your needs.

Certain features are only available on the paid version of the app.
