Samsung Galaxy Pocket

Samsung has officially announced a new entry-level Android phone, going by the moniker of Samsung Galaxy Pocket, that is destined to hit UK shores. As the name suggests, this Android phone is pocket-sized and will have a tiny pocket-money price to match.

As we dip in and out of recession and even find ourselves faced with a double-dip recession, there can never be enough affordable options, even if that means forsaking a large portion of technology in the process. Therefore, we feel that Samsung deserves a huge thumbs up for adding a very affordable option to their Android portfolio.

Simon Stanford, Vice President  of UK and Ireland Telecommunications and Networks division said in the official press release:

With the Samsung Galaxy Pocket, we are building on the features we know our customers enjoy and get the most out of. This new device adds further breadth to the choice of smartphones we currently offer and provides a smartphone experience for even more customers at an affordable price.’

Samsung Pocket Specs

Samsung Galaxy Pocket is just 100 grams in weight and has a small, but perfectly formed 2.8-inch QVGA screen. Unfortunately, its single-core processor does not even reach 1 GHz and is instead a paltry 832 MHz. There is no front-facing camera and only a 2 MP rear snapper. Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is what you get on this cut-price smartphone, and a Li-Ion 1200 mAh battery powers what little is going on. There is 3 GB of ROM and a microSD slot to give you up to an extra 32 GB of memory for all of your apps and media content.

This seems to be an ideal phone for a youngster or anybody that is not that bothered about being up-to-date with the latest technology. If, on the other hand, you are after a fast, powerful Android experience, this is probably not the phone for you.

Release Date and Price

Samsung Galaxy Pocket will be available in the UK later in 2012, although specific details are not as yet available. Though there is also a lack of pricing info, it’s likely to be as cheap as chips.

Perfect Alarm is Android Alarm Clock Perfection

If you’re after a perfect Android alarm clock that requires minimal effort but provides maximum effect and is rather beautiful too, look no further. Android developer Softbork has developed an Alarm clock that fits the bill exactly.

But don’t take our word for it, download and try it for yourself. There’s a free version and a paid ad-free version that costs a tiny £0.68.  If your idea of a wake-up call, however, is to solve tricky mathematical problems to dismiss your alarm, or you like endless menu choices to fiddle through, with complex set-up instructions, you best look elsewhere.

Perfect Alarm is simplicity itself, with intuitive, fool-proof menu settings that even your poor Aunt Hilda, who unfortunately seems to have lost her marbles, can set without any issues. No need for fancy and unnecessary trimmings, such as voice control. Who needs the weather report or stock exchange read out to them when they wake up anyhow? Not Perfect Alarm, this little gem is gimmick-free and works perfectly every time, even after rebooting your smartphone. In fact, Perfect Alarm is also designed to withstand task-killing apps.

Perfect Alarm is the closest to a real alarm clock you’ll get in virtual form. To set the time you wish your alarm to wake you, you simply move the clock’s red hand with your finger. Time can be set in either AM/PM or 24-hour format, and you can see at a glance the exact time you’ve set the alarm for, as this is displayed just above the clock as you move the hand.

Don’t worry about being late for work by accidentally disabling your alarm as you rouse yourself from sleep; to disable or snooze you must long-press, and hopefully, this is not a skill that can be done whilst half asleep. You can choose to be woken by any tune you wish, and there are 3 options for fade-in, where the alarm will gently rise in volume, of either 30 seconds, 1 minute, or 5 minutes. More like a gentle caress than an industrial hammer drill to the brain.

If you can’t get to sleep in the first place there’s always the option of counting the sheep that cascade down the screen like moon dust. There are 9 different alarm clock designs to choose from, it’s just a shame that the backgrounds aren’t changeable too, as there are some really enchanting ones.

To reset or disable your alarm simply tap the cheeky little rooster on your notification bar to gain instant access to Perfect Alarm’s menu.

ZTE Era Flagship Quad-core Phone – UK Release Date and Price

Amongst eight new ZTE Android/Windows mobile devices announced at Mobile World Congress 2012, ZTE Era is the star of ZTE’s Android smartphone show. ZTE’s flagship device, promises to be a little healthy competition for other big players this year. It also happens to be the Chinese OEM‘s most high-end phone to date, and did I forget to say that it is dangerously sexy!

ZTE has high ambitions and is looking toward becoming one of the top three handset providers by 2015. If their 2012 releases are anything to go by they are definitely on their way. At present they are heading away from entry-level, aiming towards mid to high end, something the specs below seem to prove has already happened.

‘In 2012, ZTE products will be building up from the low-middle end of the market into the middle-high end, with the ZTE Era being the best example of that development.’ said Mr. He Shiyou, Executive Vice President and Head of the Terminals Division at ZTE.

ZTE Era has a 4.3-inch QHD touchscreen with 960 x 540-pixel resolution. It runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and has a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor. Although exact battery specs aren’t known as of yet, Tegra 3 4-PLUS-1 quad-core architecture has a fifth battery-saver core that should ensure a good few hours of usage before recharge.

There is also 8 GB of storage that can be expanded by another 32 GB via microSD, an 8 MP rear-facing camera, a VGA front-facing snapper, and 1080p HD video. There’s also DNLA, HDMI-out (via MHL adaptor), and Dolby Sound to add to the mix, which ensures a great media experience. ZTE has also added a brand new user interface, in the form of Mifavor, which will include a new set of widgets, an improved file manager, improved camera options, editable home screens, and a music hub.

Check out ZTE’s new user interface, Mifavor, below:

Release Date and Price

ZTE Era is due for release in China and Europe around Q3 2012. Expect the price to be a little higher than previous ZTE phones, but it should still be a little more budget-friendly than like-for-like devices. As soon as specific dates and prices are revealed we will endeavor to let you know.

The days of suffering for Android users are numbered. Until now, unless you were the owner of an Apple product, where accessories are abundant, there were few accessories to consider for your Android smartphone. Thankfully, over the past few months, fun and useful Android gadgets/accessories have begun to emerge into this fast-growing market. Universal Android docking speakers however have been hard to source. Philips Fidelio has a range of Android docking speakers, but until now, this was your only option.

Now there is a new universal Android docking speaker to broaden your choice. IDAPT announced a truly universal Bluetooth stereo docking speaker at CES 2012, which if it delivers what it promises, is about to solve an issue for many households. IDAPT S1 docking speaker is as the title of our post states, truly universal. A truly innovative concept!

Designed in a retro fashion, IDAPT S1 features a clock with alarm, FM radio tuner, and Bluetooth 2.0 audio. Although specs are a little scanty, with no info concerning speaker watts, IDAPT S1 promises to fill a room full of rich audio, and get the party started!

You can charge two devices simultaneously, whether it’s an iPhone and HTC Sensation XE, or a Blackberry Playbook and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. an LCD display on the top of the docking speaker allows you to easily manage and control IDAPT S1’s functions, and an additional LCD display located on the front allows access to basic functions.

Here at Heavenly Android, we’re very excited about this product that comes from a company that specializes in mobile technology solutions, such as quality universal chargers like IDAPT i4, which allows multiple devices to be charged at one time.
