Will Wildfire Users ever Feast on Gingerbread?

In early December Gingerbread 2.3 was released and is beginning to find its way onto android phones. As Wildfire owners we are only now enjoying the cool sensations of Froyo 2.2 (if we are located in Europe) and will probably only ever get close to Gingerbread if we visit our local bakery. Although there will always be a custom rom of one kind or another that will do the job. Some modders have got hold of Gingerbread, Android 2.3 to you and me, and got a rough and ready version working on a HTC Wildfire phone. Watch the video here:

Now I have to say that in all honestly I don't think Gingerbread will make it onto the Wildfire. The update appears to be focused more towards android tablets and high end smart phones which have new hardware that allows Facetime like abilities ( i.e. a forward facing camera which allows video conferencing ) and NFC Near Field Communication . In short NFC will, in theory, allow you to use your phone to pay for things by just swiping it over a reader in a shop for example.

Gingerbread also has the ability to do VOIP calling (voice over IP, similar to skype). I'm sure VOIP could be done on the Wildfire, but I doubt HTC would go to the effort just for this particular feature, so we will have to wait with baited breath. However remember If HTC decide not to release this update, I'm sure that all of you die hard wildfire ROM people will find a Custom ROM running Gingerbread that will be available for HTC Wildfire at some point in the near future.
