Customising Notification Sounds & Ringtones

Personalising your Wildfire is probably top of the list when you first acquire your phone. Choosing themes and wallpapers and deciding what you want to hear for notifications and incoming calls is one of the easier, more satisfying tasks on your to-do list. One of the nice things about android is that you have an almost infinite choice of alert sounds for your sms and ringtones. HTC's default list is as bland as on any phone that has come before, so it is likely you will be wanting to select a song or noise of your own choosing, or even design an original.

Luckily there are hundreds of great free ringtone apps on Google market that will solve the issue of where to find these alert sounds and how to select and install them in the correct place. Below is a list of the best available:

Ringtone. Ringtone by Markpel Ringtones is as the name suggests and has a comprehensive choice of MP3 clips to choose from. This app is an excellent memory saver; there is no need to have multiple ringtone apps for every artist you like, sapping your phone or sd card memory, when you can install Ringtone and have access to almost any song from any genre you can think of. Once installed and opened you have an intuitive menu bar at the top of the screen. You have the option to choose from Hot (hottest song choices of the moment), Cool (a list of top artists, an artisit library, Yahoo music top songs, billboard top 100, top downloads etc), Ring (your downloads and you can also record your own sound from here to use as notification sound) and Find (search for your favourite song).

To set chosen MP3 clip as your notification follow these steps:

  1. Tap - Ring (from menu bar)
  2. Tap - Chosen MP3 clip
  3. Press - menu
  4. Press circle next to chosen setting (ringtone, notification, alarm, assign to contact)
  5. Tap - OK

If you choose to assign to contact and press OK, your list of available contacts will appear and you simply need to decide who to assign the MP3 clip to and tap on contact.

ZEDGE. Zedge is my preferred app if I wish to use a fun sound effect or message tone. The list of fun ringtones is huge and you also have a choice of wallpapers. I have reviewed this app previously and it follows a very similar procedure as above to set as ringtone, notification etc.
