In the heart of England, an unknown company by the name of Ergo Electronics has just unveiled a cut-price set of Android tablets that will hopefully set a new standard for affordable Android tablets. Birmingham's Gadget Show Live 2012 was the venue that Sam Goult, Ergo Electronics director of design, chose to showcase five new Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) entry-level tablets.

GoTab, budget busting Android tablets.

There can never be a tablet that is too cheap, so long as it doesn't forfeit every important spec into the bargain. All five budget busting Android tabletsl are set to retail for under £200! GoTab will come in 7 inch and 10 inch models and GoTab Epic will be available in 8 inch and 9.7 inch versions.

Ergo Electronics is a young company with 20 employees that's been busily concocting their batch of Android goodies since Autumn 2011. Not only are they set to add a new batch of affordable Android tablets to the ever growing market, they also have a couple of e-book readers under their belt too, that go by the moniker of GoBook.

GoTab Epic

Both GoTab Epic tablets have capacitive multi-touch IPS Crystal screens with a 4:3 aspect ratio, which although it's an unusual choice for Android, is the same as iPad and very workable on an Android tablet. The 9.7 inch version has a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, which is a smidgen less than your average 10 inch tablet, such as Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, that often sports a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. This slightly lower resolution should still provide a vibrant viewing experience, but don't expect pin-point retina-display quality.

Both also have 1 GB of DDR3 RAM and 8 GB of storage on board and a microSD slot to enable an extra 32 GB of memory. They also have a basic front-facing VGA snapper for a little facetime love. A single-core 1.2 GHz AllWinner 10 processor is the power behind this tablets workings

Each of these tablets have an aspect ration of 16:9, and the 10 inch model has an LED-backlit display to add an extra bit of vibrancy for your viewing pleasure. Other spec info concerning GoTab is limited at this moment, but we will post full specifications as soon as we have them to hand.

Let's just keep our fingers crossed that these super cheap Android tablets are only cheap on price and not quality!

Release Date and Price

Expect to see a lot more of Ergo Electronics and their GoTab / GoBook range of tablets and e-book readers from as early as May 2012. Expect to pay £109 GBP / $170 USD for GoTab 7 inch model and £149 GBP / $230 USD for the 10 inch version. GoTab Epic will retail for £129 GBP / $205 USD for the 8 inch version and £179 GBP / $285 USD for the 9.7 inch model.
