Samsung Galaxy Note is being stretched from 5.3 inches to 10.1 inches. Okay, of course it's a different device than the original Galaxy Note, which is an oversized smartphone that can be used as an Android notepad complete with S-Pen (pressure sensitive capacitive stylus). This new 10.1 version may be a little large to use as your default notepad that you carry everywhere inside your pocket, but nevertheless, we're sure this tablet, revealed at Mobile World Congress 2012, promises a great Android experience.

A whole host of software takes care of your drawing/note-taking needs including Adobe Photoshop Touch, Adobe Ideas, Zen Brush, Omni Sketch, Hello Crayon (for the children), TouchWiz and S Pen Experience. A large 10.1 screen gives you the space you need to draw that masterpiece, much needed space that Samsung Note 5.3 just can't facilitate. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 even has a split-screen option, allowing you to run two apps adjacent to each other simultaneously. Although Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is being identified as possible competition to Apple iPad 3, it's actually Wacom that should be worried, especially if it's proven that Samsung have nailed the drawing experience.

Simon Stanford, head of Samsung’s UK and Ireland Telecommunications and Networks Division said: 'The Galaxy Note 10.1 demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to extending the mobile category and we are working with key partners like Adobe to provide extraordinary experiences for our customers enabling them to be more productive and allowing them to express themselves creatively.'

Other specs to be found on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 are rather more average and mostly identical to Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Galaxy Note is slightly more bloated than Galaxy Tab 10.1, with a girth of 8.9 mm and a weight of 583 grams compared to Galaxy Tab 10.1's 565 grams and 8.6 inch waistline. Both have a 10.1 inch PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen with 800 x 1280 pixel resolution. Both have a dual-core processor, although Galaxy Note 10.1 has risen to 1.4 GHz from Galaxy Tab's 1 GHz, it would have been cool to see a quad-core processor added to Note 10.1. Both also have a 7000 mAh battery that allows at least 9 hours of playtime before a charge is needed, a 3.15 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front facing snapper. Video is a little better on Note 10.1, rising from 720p to 1080p. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 will ship with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), an update still unavailable to Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the UK.

UK Release Date and Price

Expected release is Q2 2012. Samsung Galaxy Note 5.3 is perhaps the most expensive Android smartphone to date, with prices topping the £600 mark, so although no pricing has been announced for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, it's likely to either match or exceed its predecessor.

You say that Wacom should be worried.

No, it's actually Wacom tech which is behind the drawing experience on this tablet. Samsung has licensed it from Wacom, so no worries for Wacom.
