Samsung Galaxy S III's baby brother is finally here, after much anticipation. It was always inevitable that the very best Android smartphone of 2012 was going to produce a sibling. Samsung Galaxy S III (S3) Mini is a very smart baby brother too, offering you much of the intelligent features that its predecessor does, that quite frankly help to organise your often chaotic life.
Of course, S III Mini is a smaller slice of Android, with a healthier, more affordable price tag to match. Specs have been shaved to reflect this mid-range version, with its display losing 0.8 inch, going from 4.8 inch (S III) to 4 inch (S III Mini). It's powered by a 1 GHz dual core processor rather than the 1.4 GHz quad-core beast of its brother.
Similarly, camera features are a little less. There's a 5 MP rear facing camera instead of the 8 MP offering of S III, a VGA front facing snapper, instead of the 1.9 MP one offered by big brother and video is 720p instead of 1080p. The other main difference is memory. Galaxy S III Mini is available with 8 / 16 GB storage and has a microSD card slot, that allows you to add up to a further 32 GB, whereas S III is available in 16 / 32 / 64 GB and you can add up to a further 64 GB via the microSD card slot.
Aside from the obvious spec improvisations, Galaxy S III Mini still has heaps to shout about. It runs the very latest OS, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), which combined with its dual-core processor provides speed and fluidity needed for most of the tasks you'll want to perform. Gaming, movies, web browsing and messaging will all run smoothly, with zero to minimal lag.
The 4 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen is bright and vibrant, so it's a pleasure to view whatever you like. If you want to view on a bigger screen, however, you can, thanks to DNLA. Wirelessly stream all of your media content and share your photos and videos with your nearest and dearest.
In keeping with its bigger brother, Samsung Galaxy S III Mini's form is sleek and elegant, with gentle curves. Plus, it's less of a handful for the ladies out there, fitting in their palm like a glove.
A Bucket Load of Innovation
Most importantly, the innovation and sheer life enhancing brilliance that Samsung Galaxy S III Mini offers is the same as its sibling. Besides Best Photo, Smart Stay and Social Tag, other life changing intelligence includes:
Pop up Play - Pop up Play allows you to seamlessly watch video and send messages at the same time. Keeping up with friends has never been more innovative. Cool for those of us that are beyond popular!
Direct Call - Just like its big brother, Samsung Galaxy S III Mini knows when you want to talk. If you're texting or sending email and change your mind midway through, your news far too juicy or important, you simply lift the phone to your ear and it will ring the corresponding number automatically. Saves time and frustration.
S Voice - No need to be jealous of your mates iPhone, in particular Siri. Samsung has its own version, S Voice, that uses advanced language recognition software. There are numerous actions you can complete using your voice, including; phone unlock (uses customised voice commands), select music to play, change the volume, organise your busy schedules and launch the camera.
Smart Alert - It's always useful to know who's been contacting you when you've been away from your phone for a while. Useful then that Galaxy S III Mini vibrates to alert you of missed calls and messages that it conveniently displays.
