Rumour has it there are two new Sony Android handsets just around the corner. We're pretty sure that Sony's catalogue must be bursting at the seams by now, but we're always happy to see a new addition from this iconic manufacturer. Sony Xperia TX LT29i, formerly codenamed Hayabusa, is one of the expected new arrivals, and it's definitely going to be a painful delivery, with its huge 4.6 inch screen to squeeze out!

Sony Xperia TX.

For those fan-boys of Sony, a larger slice of Android pie, Sony style, will be very much appreciated. We are yet to have the official announcement, which is thought to be happening at the IFA in Berlin on August 29, when we should also hear more news of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (an obscenely large screen), but we're pretty sure that the quoted specs below are bang on correct, apologies in advance if any are a little out.

Sony Xperia S is an earlier Sony offering that's larger than your average smartphone, at 4.3 inches, but it's heavyweight compared to Xperia TX, weighing in at 144 grams against TX's rather more featherweight 127 grams. Xperia TX has a slimline waist of 8.6 mm also, making it a rather sexy beast.

The 4.6 inch screen size, which has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and scratch resistant glass isn't the only spec that's grown however, as Sony TX also boasts a 13 MP rear facing camera. Not bad I hear you say! There's a front facing snapper and video at [email protected] too, and 32 GB onboard storage to ensure you can snap away to your hearts content.

Sony TX will ship with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) already installed, which is of course appreciated, and it runs on a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor with a Adreno 225 GPU. NFC is ready and waiting too, so as you can envisage, it's likely to be a popular up-to-date handset.

Its sibling that is due at a similar time is Sony Xperia T, a similar but slightly downgraded handset, which will of course be slightly less pricey. As ever in the world of Android technology, there is never a dull moment, and never a chance to rest on your laurels. Let's hope that Sony TX and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 give Apple iphone 5 a run for their money!
