Alcatel recently announced a whole bunch of new and improved Android phones in their One Touch series to take them through 2012, 12 new handsets to be precise. Alcatel One Touch 995, otherwise known as Alcatel OT-995 was one such smartphone, and the one thing you can guarantee with Alcatel is affordability. Though the entry-level area is extremely competitive so they may just have their work cut out.

Alcatel are hell bent on expanding their product portfolio and are also poised to move into the fast-paced tablet market as well as mobile broadband. Is it, however, good enough to simply release a whole herd of new Android phones that have hardly moved forward where the all important spec-sheet is concerned?

Specs Not that Special

On paper Alcatel OT-995's specs are extremely modest, to the point where you may very well wonder just where their technical innovation lies. Specs are nothing out of the ordinary and a little last year'ish to put it frankly. A 4.3 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen (480 x 800 pixels) is accompanies by a 5 MP rear facing camera, a VGA front facing snapper and numerous connection options such as DLNA, which allows you to stream your media content through a HD TV.

The innards that control the Alcatel show include a 1.4 GHz single-core processor, a Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery and only a very measly 512 GB of internal storage (RAM). It all runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), but there is promise of an update to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) later in the year.

Despite all of its shortcomings, initial findings are that the Snapdragon processor is particularly nifty and overall it leads to a very smooth user experience, which when coupled with the new and improved 3D UI (user interface), provides a pleasant entry-level Android phone with universal appeal.

Alcatel has some stiff competition however, with key players also introducing new Android entry-level phones into the market. See article links below:
