Acer were proud to announce the upcoming arrival of their cloud based Android phone at MWC 2012, alongside its entry level sibling Acer Liquid Glow. Acer CloudMobile (formerly codenamed S500) will be the very first Android phone in the world to use Acer's very own cloud storage/processing service, which is similar to iCloud.

Not only is Acer CloudMobile the first to utilise Acer cloud, it's also won a prestigious award ahead of its release, as stated in Acer's press release:

The Acer CloudMobile smartphone has just received the iF design award 2012, in recognition of outstanding achievement in design.’

The iF award ceremony was held in Munich, Germany, on February 10th 2012, and was organised by the International Forum Design of Germany. Awards given are in recognition of innovative product design. Not a bad achievement.

Acer Cloud storage.

The Acer CloudMobile will be the first phone ever to connect to Acer’s cloud service, which offers similar features to iCloud, but run by Acer. Furthermore the 4.3inch display phone offers Android 4.0 at a HD resolution. It was leaked because it was nominated for a design award. The phone was known as the S500 then and had a thickness of 9.9mm, thick for a modern day phone. The phone will be at MWC for sure, and we’ll know more then, but the picture below is enough to go one for now considering we already, know the resolution, and that it has a Dolby Speaker and sound, a nice change from HTC’s beats branding.

Back to the 'piece de resistance', Acer CloudMobile service. This service will allow seamless access to all media/documents from either your home PC or your smartphone. You can access content from your PC even when it's in sleep mode. Photographs taken on your handset are also saved remotely to your home PC.

'Securely connects personal content from Cloud PCs through CloudMobile anytime, anywhere. Users can push thousands of photos to and from CloudMobile and listen to their entire music collection whether at home or on the go.’ Acer said of their product.

Acer CloudMobile, Android phone.

Acer CloudMobile comes complete with all the nuts and bolts you'd expect from a high end Android handset in 2012. In fact, the only spec that is a little unspectacular is the 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU, it's a shame that Acer couldn't have squeezed a quad-core processor into the mix; that would have been the cherry on top of this delectable Android cake. All other factors are in order. Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) comes installed, nice one Acer. There's 16 GB of storage on board besides Acer CloudMobile storage, an 8 MP rear facing camera, a 4.3 inch fully laminated HD screen with an 720 x 1280 pixel resolution, and besides the usual connections there's also NFC, which is a rather nice added extra.

Acer has a UK release date pencilled in for Q3 2012, probably around August. As soon as we have a clearer idea of UK release and price we will let you know.
