HTC One V - Entry Level 2012 Style

HTC One V is the third Android phone in a trio announced by HTC on 26th February. If your purse is a little sparse this may be the one for you. Entry level where specs are concerned, and the upper end of entry level in price. If however, you're lucky enough to have a slightly fatter bank account, you could consider HTC One X, with its mighty 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, NFC and amazing 4.7 inch screen, or HTC One S, which has a slightly more humble 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and a camera to die for.

If you have to settle for third best, no worries, you're still in for an Ice Cream Sandwich treat. Unlike other manufacturers, HTC deserves a little credit for recognising the fact that consumers prefer to spend their cash on Android devices that are kitted out from the beginning with the latest OS, and would rather not wait around for sometimes months just to upgrade to the latest version only for the next to be due within days.

HTC One V, Android phone.

HTC One V sports a 1 GHz processor. It may not be quad-core or even dual-core but it's still a worthy step up from HTC Wildfire S's 800 MHz CPU (HTC's 2011 entry level Android phone), and as such should provide a marginally better speed. There's a more than adequate 3.7 inch screen with a resolution of 480 x 800, 4 GB of internal storage plus a microSD slot supporting up to an extra 32 GB. As with One X and One S you also get 25 GB of free cloud storage from Dropbox for two years.

Audio is enhanced thanks to Beats audio and the camera is quite spectacular. It may be only 5 MP, compared to One X and One S's 8 MP snappers, but otherwise it enjoys the same improvements including BSI sensor for improved low light images, continuous shooting mode and the ability to capture a photo in the midst of recording videos. On the disappointing side, there is no front facing camera and no NFC. Still, HTC One V is a worthy addition to 2012's entry level Android devices.
