Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 Versus Samsung Galaxy Mini

It's been over a year since Samsung released its first entry level Android phone, Samsung Galaxy Mini, an affordable competitor for the likes of mega popular HTC Wildfire. It's only to be expected therefore that Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 (S6500) has been announced and is on its way shortly. Galaxy Mini 2 will be winding its way through the many roads of Europe, starting its journey in France around Easter, although we have no idea at this point when it will park up in the UK.

Samsung are following the trend of releasing second generation phones which can confuse and even anger consumers, but whether this is good or bad, when it concerns cheap pocket dynamite such as Galaxy Mini we aren't complaining. The more affordable Android devices available, the more consumers can be put on the Android map. As usual with a second edition handset, the question is what exactly has changed? Below we take a look at just what you can expect.

There is negligible difference in weight or dimensions, however just enough has been added to width and height to squeeze an extra 0.11 inches onto Samsung Galaxy Mini 2's screen size, making it 3.27 inch. Resolution has had a nice little increase, from 240 x 320 pixels to 320 x 480 pixels, which should give the display a noticeable improvement. The less than desirable and outdated 600 MHz processor of Galaxy Mini 1 has been replaced with a still disappointing single-core 800 MHz processor. Android 2.3 is under the hood of Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 and internal storage has leapt from Samsung Galaxy Mini's paltry 160 MB to a rather nice 4 GB. It seems there is still no front facing camera, although specs are a little hazy at this point and may be amended in the future. Battery has improved slightly and NFC is available on Galaxy Mini 2.

The world of Android is full of extremes and just as there is word of another super sized/super priced Android phone on the horizon in the form of LG Optimus Vu, it's only right that Galaxy Mini 2 will fill the needs of smaller hands and budgets. As soon as Heavenly Android has confirmation of UK price and release date we will let you know!
