Sony Xperia S is Sony's First Android Phone Without Ericsson!

Sony Xperia S was announced earlier this week at 2012 CES (Consumer Electronics show) in Las Vegas. No, not Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, simply Sony Xperia S. This NFC enabled smartphone is also the very first dual core Sony Xperia smartphone. It will be supported by both O2 and Three, but if you want it in white you will be able to buy it exclusively from Phones 4U upon it's release.

Phones 4U trading director said; "The Xperia S takes the mobile HD experience to a whole new level and packages it all up in a slick new innovative design for Sony. Being the only retailer to offer both the white and black variants, along with free 4U Wi-Fi, we're expecting the Xperia S to be a popular smartphone of choice at Phones 4U as we enter the New Year."

A nifty 1.5 GHz dual core processor is at the heart of this handset, and it boasts a whopping 12 MP rear facing camera with Exmor R technology, meaning that you'll be able to take beautiful, detailed pictures in even the poorest of lighting conditions. 12 MP cameras have been unheard of on Android phones up until now, although we're expecting to see Android camera phones from Panasonic to rival Sony Xperia S sometime this year.

Complimenting all of the above is a 4.3 inch, Mobile Bravia HD screen, with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a HDMI port for connection to your HDTV. Media content will be an absolute pleasure to view on this (albeit not quad core) muscly Android phone.

Although released with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) an update to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) will be available very shortly  afterwards. It is also both DNLA and Playstation certified, meaning gaming should be a whole bucketload of fun, and has 32 GB Flash memory.

March is the month pencilled in for the official UK release of this Sony Xperia S, the first smartphone from Sony that's void of any additional 'Ericsson' branding, as in October 2011 Sony announced that it had reclaimed full ownership in a £918 million pound deal.

Update:

Sony Xperia S is soon available to buy in the UK. Clove is selling the stunning white version, expected to ship around 12th March, at a price of £429.60 (inclusive of vat). If you choose to buy from Clove you also get 4 x Sony Xperia Smart Tags (to use with your NFC phone) and a £10 voucher to spend on future Xperia S accessories, which totals £30 of free stuff!
