Steve Jobs With Wings - Taiwanese Insult

A spoof Taiwanese ad promoting a little known technology company, Action Electronics, Android tablet has caused outrage around the world. The advert, featuring Taiwanese comedian Ah-Ken complete with angel wings and halo was deemed insulting and distasteful towards the memory of Apple CEO Steve Jobs as it was plainly obvious that this was who Ah-Ken was imitating.

The promotion was in extremely poor taste considering it seemed to delight in poking fun at the late geniuses profound dislike for Google Android. The 20 second advert sees the Steve Jobs parody, complete with Jobs trademark black turtle-neck sweater and blue jeans, flapping his angel wings in excitement as he talks about the features of the Action Electronic Android tablet and its multi-language dictionary.

Apple genius Steve Jobs would not be amused.

'I'd like to present to you a new generation of tablets. It's amazing. Thank God I finally get to play other tablets,' Ah-Ken says during the 20 second advert, in a mock insinuation that Steve Jobs, who lost his long battle for survival in October 2011, is pro Android in the afterlife. Although no direct referral towards either Jobs or Apple is made the connotation is blatantly obvious.

'Steve Jobs always promoted things that were good for people, Apple products.' Chelsea Chen, spokeswoman for Action Electronics said. 'So his image can also promote other things that are good.'

The reception was not as good as expected, with viewers refusing to support the company behind what they considered to be an unamusing video. The reaction on Facebook and other online forums has been huge, with the general feeling being one of horror.

Action Electronics Vice President Sun Yi-min declined to comment as to whether the advert would be pulled or modified. Whatever they decide, they have certainly achieved their objective, even if in an unconventional manner. Action Electronics is a name now imprinted on the brains of far more people than it would have been had they not taken this unsavoury route.
