LG Optimus 3D

Innovative LG were keeping tight lipped about their new 3D smartphone, which they were supposed to unveil at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona; until that is, they decided to leak some video teasers beforehand announcing their android powerhouse, LG 3D Optimus.

LG Optimus 3D is packed tighter than a sardine tin with some pretty impressive specs. The addition of a powerful dual-core processor should make a welcome change to browsing speed, increasing it to quite nippy proportions. The 4.3 inch screen has a more than ample resolution, ideal for viewing your 3D films, videos and photographs. With a massive 8 GB of storage on board (expandable up to 32 GB), you will be hard pushed to run out of space. The most disappointing aspect of LG Optimus 3D is the rather paltry battery, giving up to only 4 hours talktime; come on LG, this is simply not good enough!

The problem with 3D is the lack of content available, content that will most likely take years to quantify as supply will only ever grow to meet demand; and of course excitement and demand is there in bucketloads for this emerging technology but unfortunately in todays economic climate the price of 3D hardware equals a luxury that just has to take a backseat. LG's has their own answer to this problem, which is to capture your own 3D content. Although James Cameron wont have to worry too much, it will be a while before anybody makes 3D films to rival Avatar!

Just as anything else that is worth waiting for, the release date is ever changing, orginally scheduled for February 2011, then 25th April 2011, it has now been put back until at least June 2011. I expect the time frame to keep changing as LG continue to tweak their masterpiece and hopefully iron out any bugs and such like.

I can confidently say that the price has been confirmed to be around £545, much as expected for a neat piece of brand new smartphone technology. If 3D phones are your thing, you may also be interested in the 'coming soon' HTC Evo 3D.
